I am unashamedly a Google disciple. I think their search engine is a modern marvel and should be heritage listed. All businesses should be moving their business applications to Google Apps hosted within Googles data centres. Google provides cutting edge business services at prices which would have been considered impossible just a few years ago. I know of no other company which cares for it's customers the way that Google do, yep for sure they have won me.
Consumers are starting to make purchasing decisions differently to how they did in the past and are more likely to make a purchase after considering recommendations from friends in their social network.
It makes sense that business should be tapping into this trend. Here’s a short video that explains why your business should go social and setup a Facebook Page to take advantage of this trend.
I’m convinced that in the near future all businesses will be running their IT in the cloud. I see three major providers of cloud services to business, Google, Microsoft and Amazon. I think Google will win the territory for small to medium business and so have decided to become an authorised reseller of Google Apps.
Having already assisted businesses migrate their office IT to the Google cloud services it is a logical step to become authorised by Google to resell their Google Apps solutions and services.
I have discovered one of the main concerns business owners have in trusting their business to the cloud is security. Google is wonderful at assisting resellers answer client concerns and here is a video Google have put together which demonstrates the security built in to their data centres. If you have concerns about security in the cloud I recommend you watch this video and I think you’ll agree a Google data centre is a lot more secure than a desktop PC, laptop or an office server.
Currently there is lots of talk about Facebook users being spammed, there are several precautions you can take to help prevent yourself becoming a victim.
First, never click a link on anything that looks suspicious, especially messages from friends inviting you to click the link to receive some special offer.
Second, never copy a script or line of code into your browser location bar because doing so could activate a malicious script on your computer.
Third, turn on secure browsing in your Facebook settings, below is a short video on how you can do that. Just be aware that secure browsing in Facebook can limit access to some content but that’s the trade off for choosing security.
When submitting your business listing to Google Places make sure you use an email address which is linked to the business and not your personal email address.
The reason is simple, if you sell the business one of the business assets will be the business listing in Google Places. If you have used your personal email address to setup the listing it will be difficult to pass on the listing. Continue reading →
I have several web sites which I publish my contact details on, specifically my phone number. This leads to me getting regular calls from tele marketers attempting to sign me up to search engine optimisation services.
Most of the calls are made by people who speak poor English and how they ever get people to sign up beats me, but I suppose they do or they wouldn’t be making the calls.
I quizzed the last caller on what they were offering and through broken English they explained they would guarantee me first spot on Google search results for my main keyword. The caller couldn’t tell me what that keyword was because they were just making calls. Continue reading →
Google have populated their business pages directory by importing business listings from online directories such as the YellowPages so your business may already be listed. You can check by just performing a search on Google maps for your business name.
You may find your business searching on it’s name but not see it ranked in search results under a relative business keyword. For example if you are an accountant servicing the Canberra region you would want to rank highly for the search phrase “accountant canberra”. Continue reading →
Millions of people are searching for business services on Google and I will bet that if you search for the services your business provides your competitors are listed on the front page of Google search results in Google’s places listings.
Test it, visit www.google.com.au and search for your business category and location. For example if you are an accountant and operate in Canberra. Search for accountant canberra just like your potential clients might do. Continue reading →
I never really want to bring politics into my website but I want to introduce two of the most well known personal brands in Australia today Julia Gillard and Tony Abbott.
I’ve discovered that Tony Abbott has his own website which he links to his Facebook page which has 19,195 likes.
Julia Gillard redirects her domain to www.alp.org.au which does not provide a link to her Facebook page but she still has 111.353 likes, a lot more than Tony Abbott.
I performed a search on their domain names and interestingly this is what I found.
TonyAbbott.com.au is owned by a person called Tony Abbott, so in my mind Tony Abbott has complete control of his personal brand online.
JuliaGillard.com.au is owned by The Australian Labour Party so I suggest when her time comes to leave politics she’ll need to do some serious negotiating with the ALP to secure her brand.
So I congratulate Tony Abbott for securing his brand I also congratulate Julia Gillard for the 111,000+ Facebook likes.
